QUICK SPECS
Soil Preparation and Backfill should achieve:
- Increase soil fertility and increase CEC (cation exchange capacity)
- Achieve long-term optimum growing conditions and improve soil structure
- Increase water holding capacity and a deep rooting system
- Provide important nutrients for plant uptake
A standard soil preparation specification
Apply 150 lbs. of Gro-Power Plus* or equal and 2-3 cubic yards of high quality compost (see details) per 1000 sq. ft. Rototill a minimum of two directions, to a depth of 4-6 inches. After soil preparation, but prior to planting, irrigate with overhead irrigation so that a minimum of 1-3 inches of good quality water passes through the soil profile, beyond the root zone.
A standard backfill specification
Use 70% native onsite oil, by volume and 30% of compost (see details) with 16 lbs. of Gro-Power Plus* per cubic yard. Add Gro-Power Planting Tablets for extended feeding and conditioning.
Dig planting pits 1-1/2 times the width and 1 times the depth of the root ball. Fill pits with backfill mix to the depth of the root ball and irrigation thoroughly.
COMPOST: Certified organic green waste compost free of any animal waste, poultry litter, sewage sludge or toxic materials and sized at -3/8 or nitrolized redwood sawdust.
*Use Gro-Power Plus w /mycorrhizae in poor nutritional soils (i.e. sub soils, sandy soils or DG) or projects that will have limited irrigation and/or no maintenance program.
The soil is where it all begins and is so vital to the success of the plant materials specified and for the overall results of the project. We recommend a soil test on every project.
